Carol Turner Tolin with her son Steve and husband Jim. Carol is a teacher at Honey Creek High School. Their son, Steve is about to enter law school. John Adkerson (left), and his son: John Scott Adkerson (right).
When I thought I’d found our classmate John Adkerson on facebook, I posted the photo and announced he had moved back to Terre Haute from Freland, Nebraska. Here is the email I received from our ‘67’ classmate, John: “Randy: The picture on the August edition is John Scott Adkerson. Here is a picture of me, John F. Adkerson. I do claim John Scott… he is my son.” Sorry for the mix up John, but we're glad to have discovered a photo of your son... as well as you. Our John is still living in Freland, Nebraska.
Becky Melvin and Jim Jeffries were high school sweethearts from the class of ‘67’. They were married after graduation and now live in Estill Springs, Tennessee. Becky just joined our facebook group this month. She has made her career in education while Jim is employed as Mgr. Engineer and Maintenance at Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg, TN. In our continuing search for celebrity lookalikes, I noticed Jim's senior picture and the uncanny resemblance to one of television’s “Home Improvement” stars. The youngest son of Tim "the tool man" Taylor… Mark, played by, Taren Noah Smith. To see more celebrity lookalikes... go to Photo Galleries at the top of this page.
Patti Doyle Mitchell with her husband Mark and granddaughter Olivia. Olivia is holding her “Mayor’s Character Trait Award.” The honor comes from Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett’s office on behalf of the Vigo County School Corporation.
Sharon Dunfee Debney met her husband Jim in 1967 and just celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. They live in West Terre Haute, have two daughters and four grandchildren
Susan Freed Lonergan, (center) daughter Molly (left) and friend Jen.(right). Susie now lives in Olathe, KS. She is principal at Liberty View Elementary School. She has two sons and two daughters Skip Morton and his wife Susan. (Right corner): Skip and Susan with Linda and Randy Andrew.
Skip enlisted in the in the U. S. Air Force after graduation. When his tour of duty ended he lived in California for several years and then moved to Las Vegas where he joined the North Las Vegas Police Department. In 2001 he retired and moved back to Indiana. He met his future wife Susan in 2008 and they were married in January 2009. They now live in Brownsburg, IN. Skip’s father Les and my (Randy Andrew) mother Rosemary were married in 1966 and moved to California in 1971. Our parents are now residing at an assisted living apartment complex where Skip and Susan stayed during their visit to California. After four days of seeing our folks and coming over to our house, they headed for Phoenix to see Skip’s grandson…. where he and his wife are expecting Skip’s GREAT Grandson in July… God we’re getting old!!!
Pam Jones Berrisford… Still trying to figure out what she wants to do when she grows up.
Pam wasn’t sure what she wanted to do “when she grew up,” so she didn’t attend college. Her first job began on the Monday right after our graduation day in 1967. She worked for three different businesses during her time in the work force and in June of 2008, she retired from Eli Lilly after twenty years.
Pam tells us:“I've been married more than once but found the love of my life (David) eighteen years ago. I have one child, a son named Joel who has blessed me with two grandsons. Tanner is fourteen and Chase is nine. They are my reward for not "killing" Joel when he was in the, I know more than you stage of life (age 15-18)."
Pam and David like to travel on cruise ships and are also planning a trip to Las Vegas. Since her retirement, Pam has become a member of the Rockville Women’s Club and the Covered Bridge Garden Club. She also makes greeting cards and sells them at a local flower shop. They now live in Parke County close to the West Union Covered Bridge on land that David’s family has owned for many years. “I was born in the city but love living in the country.” I think Pam has finally decided what she wants to do, now that she’s almost… grown up.

Earl Holliman in scenes from the first episode of Twilight Zone.
“The Twilight Zone” by, Randy Andrew A few weeks ago my wife Linda and I were in Los Angeles to see an old friend. In the early 1980s I was a radio talk show host and had the privilege of working for one of the best in the business; “Sweet Dick” Whittington. Dick was a regular on television's “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In” and at the same time worked as a popular L.A. radio personality through the 1970s, 80s and 90s. When we met up with Dick, we also spent the day with one of Dick’s old friends, actor Earl Holliman. Holliman co-starred with Angie Dickinson on the TV series "Police Woman" and starred in the first episode of my all time favorite television series.

Jane Buchholz Gallagher shares with us, stories about growing up in Terre Haute and just being a Hoosier. She and her husband, Larry Gallagher, also class of ‘67’ now live in Crawfordsville, IN. Larry came to Garfield from Otter Creek and Jane went to McLean. They dated through graduation and were married in 1968. They have one son, Kevin who is married and lives near them. Larry works for the “Paper of Montgomery County” and Jane is a recently retired grade school teacher. This Month's Story:
"Cats"
The first cat I can ever remember was one that we found dead in a window well of our house when I was about four. I still remember the grisly sight. Because I like you, I won’t go into detail, but the poor sad kitty has stayed etched on my brain for all of these years. It must have worked its way in and couldn’t get out. Mother took us inside and Dad properly disposed of the cat. After that we all checked the window well, just to see if another cat had mysteriously appeared. A few years later, a cat did wander into our lives. She was a tiny little thing with only a part of a tail. She had an M on her forehead that was filled in with orange fur. She seemed to like us and hung around for her lifetime. We called her Missy. Missy was a smart little cat and purred her way into everyone’s heart. My siblings and I would bargain for who was going to get to have Missy sleep with them, even though as all cats do, she had a mind of her own and would go wherever she pleased. My mother even became a fan. She wasn’t all that crazy about cats. When she was a little girl, her family had a mean old tomcat who hung around the back door. He was scraggly and battle worn. Mother didn’t like that cat at all and at the tender age of seven, she took matters into her own hands, bundling the cat up into a burlap bag and hauling it to a place by the railroad tracks, hoping a hobo would take it with him. She left the cat in the bag then headed back home. Was she ever surprised when she returned and that old cat had beat her back home. They just co-existed after that until he moved on to greener pastures. Missy was a different story. She and Mother were pals from the beginning. Her quiet presence and kitten-like stature gave my mother a lot comfort as she went through her days of young motherhood. Missy would settle in on the sewing machine to help her sew, perch on the back of her chair when she was reading, and sit in the middle of her paperwork. |
